Small Alterations Offer Big Opportunities

As we end another year, we look back on what has arguably been the toughest economic period any of us have witnessed during our careers in the construction business. The good news is that we seemed to have hit bottom and consumers are regaining confidence. We are seeing more and more projects being planned for the not so distant future. I hope that you are experiencing this up-tick as well.

In the meantime, many of the projects that homeowners are asking contractors to do are smaller interior alterations to their existing homes. These include upgrades in mouldings/trim, and custom built-ins. In this issue of the newsletter, I would like to remind or introduce to you our various offerings in mouldings, hardwoods, and hardwood plywood.

We also stock many of the Western Wood Product Associations standard moulding patterns in clear Ponderosa pine. We also have many of the most popular patterns in primed finger-jointed pine. You can find all of the above patterns in your Brosco Book of Designs or on any common moulding chart. We can special order any of the mouldings that are not in stock and the usual delivery time is one to two days. In addition to this, we have added a line of mouldings created especially for Hingham Lumber and its customers. The ‘Old Colony Line’ replicates period mouldings of colonial Massachusetts. This line includes nine profiles of primed finger-jointed poplar. We have also increased our offering in PVC patterns. These include casings, sills, bands, beds, crowns, and bases. Lastly, we have a partnership with a hardwoods company who has over three thousand profiles available. They can price job lot quantities on any of those patterns in almost any hardwood. See Ron Figueiredo or myself for quotes.

Another category we have expanded is hardwood plywood. We now stock:

• ¼”, ½”, ¾” Veneer Core Birch
• ¼”, ¾” Rotary Red Oak
• ½”, ¾” 5x5 Baltic Birch multi veneer core cabinet grade plywood)
• ½”, ¾” Pre-finished Natural Maple
• ¼”, ¾” Plain Sliced Cherry

We can special order almost any other hardwood plywood with a two-day lead-time.
In addition to the plywood, we stock some hardwood boards. These include:

• Cherry & Maple 1x4, 1x6, 1x8, all S4S
• Red Oak 1x4, 1x6, 1x8, 1x10, 1x12 S4S
• Mahogany 4/4, 6/4, 8/4, in the rough
• Teak 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 8/4, in the rough
• Red Oak 6/4, 8/4, in the rough

All of our hardwoods are FAS grade.
